AKA, Nomzamo Mbatha, Siya Kolisi, Kagiso Rabada and Somizi nominated for Kids Choice Awards

SA leading A-listers get nominated for Nickelodeon Choice Awards.

With categories chosen for children by children, the Nickelodeon Kids Choice Awards are one of the coolest award ceremonies in the world. The awards celebrate children’s favourites across TV, film, music as well as digital and internet platforms and see the power of children’s voices put to the test.

“The most special thing about the Kids’ Choice Awards is that it’s really an awards show for kids by kids. It’s also the only award show where the most strange, awkward, messy stuff happen and anything at any time can happen,” said Tasania Parsadh, channel director for Nickelodeon Africa.

At a media press conference held in Sandton City, Nickelodeon Africa announced the host and nominees for the 2019 Kids’ Choice Awards, and this year, the slime fest returns with AKA, Nomzamo Mbatha, Siya Kolisi, Kagiso Rabada and Somizi leading the Favourite South African Star category.

Attending the press conference with his daughter, Kairo, hip-hop musician extraordinaire, AKA said he was honoured to be recognised by the Kids’ Choice Awards and expressed gratitude to his core fan base made up of young people.

“As a father, it’s very important that kids have a way to express themselves and that’s why Nickelodeon is so dope because it gives the kids the platform,” AKA said.

Nickelodeon Africa has joined forces with the iconic family restaurant, Wimpy, to bring South African families the 2019 Nickelodeon Kids’ Choice Awards (KCA). The partnership will see one South African family of four heading to Los Angeles to get the full Nickelodeon KCA experience on 23 March.

“This relationship of ours has actually come quite a long way, we’ve done many things together but I think at the heart of it it’s really around the values that we hold as brands. Wimpy is a family brand and we’ve always been about family and bringing the family together and Nickelodeon is very much about family,” Jacques Cronjé, marketing executive at Wimpy said.

“It’s always good validation to know when your work is recognised, but most importantly, when young people are listening, when young people are watching and engaged to the work that you’re constantly pushing. It’s an awesome moment and how cool are these awards? I also want to get slimed,” Nomzamo Mbatha said.
