Sandton Chronicle went to the streets to hear what the community had to say on Babes Wodumo and Mampintsha domestic abuse scandal.

Artists and couple, Mandla ‘Mampintsha’ Maphumolo and Bongekile ‘Babes Wodumo’ Simelane, caused a frenzy on social media after a video of Mampintsha repeatedly slapping Babes Wodumo emerged on her live Instagram story. Babes Wodumo laid an assault charge while Mampintsha plans to lay a counter charge too.

The Sandton Chronicle team went to the streets to find out from the public whether they think that enough support is given to victims of domestic abuse. Here’s what they had to say…

ELSIE MAGUGU: We have a long way to go in terms of domestic abuse in our country, we need more than support, and the law must do something very quickly.

THANDEKA MTHIMUNYE: In this case, enough support is not given to Babes Wodumo. We should make sure that justice is served. The video was a shame.

KAREN WINGARD: I don’t think enough support is given to the victims of domestic violence simply because these cases keep on recurring. So a lot has to be done starting with showing them more support.

NALEDI THAMBO: I think hitting women is totally wrong and we should support Babes in this tough time.

NIMROD PITSO: Victims of domestic abuse are given support but I wish the law could do more in terms of protecting them against their abusers.
