Sandton Victim Empowerment seeks new volunteers

SANDTON – Volunteers will provide an essential service in providing victims with support and counselling.

The Sandton Victim Empowerment Programme is appealing for volunteers to assist in the counselling of victims of crime.

The programme offers services and support to victims of crimes, ranging from robberies to sexual offences. The volunteers, who do not necessarily need to have counselling experience, offer their time to give either telephonic or face to face counselling sessions with victims of crimes.

No background training or experience is required, and training will be provided at a non-refundable cost of R600 per volunteer which includes, tea, coffee and lunch.

The training will include two one-day sessions on consecutive weekends on 6 April and 14 April.

Volunteers must be at least 27 years of age, South African citizens, have access to email and their own transport. A commitment of 16 hours per month is required.

Although no remuneration is provided, the volunteers help play an essential role in providing victims with the necessary support and counselling following a traumatic ordeal.

Pre-training interviews will take place at Sandton Police Station.
