The Grade 8 learners at Hyde Park High School recently completed their orientation week.
The school’s staff and senior counsellors go out of their way to ensure that the new Grade 8s are happy and well integrated into the school. The staff and senior counsellors prepare a program which is fun and interactive for them.
Kamohelo Makhate a Grade 8 learner said she loved the fun of getting to know her new friends while getting dirty. “The senior counsellors were such good sports and allowed us to splash them with water.”
The experience of orientation week helped her as a new Grade 8 to familiarise herself with the layout of the school and she found that as a result, high school was not nearly as scary as she thought it would be.
