Art to Explore group hopes to encourage young and old to be more creative.

BRYANSTON – The group will meet twice a month and focus on artworks by a variety of famous artists.

The Explorers Friendship and Chat group, which is based in Bryanston, will now host Art to Explore, a programme to encourage people to have fun creating art.

The group was started to give older people the opportunity to build friendships and host a variety of speakers to engage them. The new art programme encourages both young and old people to join the group every second and fourth Saturday of the month.

Shelley Addis, the creator of the group hosted the first Art to Explore group in December. “A lively group of ladies joined together in our meeting room in Bryanston and enjoyed a fun morning exploring Vincent van Gogh’s Starry Night and how it inspired many artists in their interpretation of that iconic painting. The ladies then enjoyed playing with their own ideas.”

Addis added that the group members then each took their own approach to the piece, resulting in an individual art piece for each person to take home.

The next Art to Explore will be held on 9 and 23 February in the garden setting in Bryanston from 10am to 12noon. During these sessions, they will be chatting about The Scream by Edvard Munch and explore his history. Once again participants will be encouraged to play with their interpretation, or not, as they choose, of the painting.

Addis added that she hopes the group can encourage people to explore arts and crafts and provide fun for young and old together. These meetings will occur twice a month and they hope to feature a famous artist in their birthday month.
