Sandton fire did not take place at the Michelangelo Hotel – management

SANDTON – Despite numerous reports on social media, the fire did not take place in the Michelangelo Hotel, management has said.

The management of The Michelangelo Hotel and Legacy Hotels and Resorts has released a statement to confirm that the fire that broke out today, 21 November, in Sandton was not in the Michelangelo Hotel.

The hotel management and staff did, however, evacuate guests and staff from the hotel as a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of guests, should the fire have spread.

“The fire is under control, and the public awaits authorisation from the Johannesburg Emergency Services on when they can re-enter the buildings in the vicinity,” said Glenn Stutchbury, Divisional Operations Manager at Legacy Hotels and Resorts.

“The management and staff of The Michelangelo would like to thank the South African public for the speed at which they reacted to the fire as well as the members of the Johannesburg Emergency Services, ER24 and Sandton Fire Department who have been on scene containing the blaze.”
