Police urge residents to install extra safety precautions this festive season

SANDTON – Randburg police urge the community to remain alert even during this relaxing time.

With the festive season in full swing, it is important to keep your wits about you and make sure your family is as secure as possible.

Randburg police spokesperson, Captain Makgowanyana Maja said, “We urge the community to remain aware this holiday season.”

He shared a few precautionary tips to prevent a burglary:

  • Secure all doors and windows
  • Light up your home, use timer switches that turn your lights off and on.
  • Close your curtains at night or when you leave your house.
  • Store keys safely away from windows and letterboxes, don’t leave them inside the lock
  • Record details of valuables and don’t keep large cash amounts at home
  • Use your alarm, even when at home and install tamper alarms on your main gate
  • Prevent easy access by using these items: window bars, security doors, security gates, razor wire, additional locking devices on doors. Also, strengthening of doors, installing peepholes and safety chains on doors
  • Install an intercom system between the home, main gate and front door or garage.
