#WomenEmpowerment: Project Brave to host fun fundraiser for marginalised women

SANDTON – Project Brave will host the premiere of Life Itself at Ster-Kinekor Sandton City to raise money for future projects.

The Project Brave Foundation, a non-profit organisation focused on uplifting and empowering marginalised women, will be hosting a fundraising event at the Ster-Kinekor at Sandton City.

The foundation aims to elevate, transform and reintegrate women back into society by giving them a hand up and not a handout. The foundation was started by Sacha Proctor, a qualified community psychologist, and Candice Street, a qualified teaching professional, who were moved by a large number of women and children who were begging on the streets.

Street said, “We decided that instead of simply driving past these people, we were simply going to start a conversation with them and find out their stories. We realised that instead of just getting them a job or giving them a few items of clothes, they needed a programme that would help them psychologically, socially, spiritually, vocationally and with their physical needs.”

The programme includes four different aspects which include rescue, support, empower and reintegrate.

Currently, their work is primarily in the Sandton and Fourways areas with plans to extend the programme nationally.

Street explained that they are always looking for different fundraising ideas. They approached Ster-Kinekor who have allowed them to host the premiere of the movie Life Itself at the Sandton City Branch.

This fundraiser will be Project Brave’s last one for the year and Street added that they are always open to hosting exciting fundraising where people can both have fun and give back to the community.

Project Brave contributes towards school fees, care packages, skills training and housing allowances among other needs for women and children. In the future Street and Sartor hope to raise enough funds for a new facility to use for counselling, workshops and skills training.

“We have been very blessed so far with many people taking an interest in what we are doing and wanting to play their part.

“By attending a fun event and knowing you are making an impact in your city by helping people, motivates people to attend. People have been very supportive and we are looking forward to what the future holds for the organisation,” concluded Street.

The movie premiere will be hosted on 1 November at 8 pm. For more information, click here.
