Show your support at Forest Farm Centre’s market day

BRYANSTON –The market day will celebrate the centre's 50th anniversary and help raise money for the centre.

The Forest Farm Centre for people with cerebral palsy is hosting a market day to celebrate their 50th anniversary and to commemorate International Cerebral Palsy day.

The market day will be hosted on 6 October at Forest Farm in Bryanston. On the day there will be a variety of live entertainment, a dog show and arts and crafts.

The centre cares for adults with moderate to severe cerebral palsy and gives them the opportunity to do arts and crafts, go on outings, have social get-togethers and perform small tasks at the workshop.

Fifty years ago the centre was started by parents who had children with cerebral palsy and wanted to provide them with a place to stay once they had finished school. This year, the centre has a variety of activities planned to celebrate their anniversary, including the market day.

Bulelwa Mahura, a social worker at Forest Farm, said that there are many people who don’t know about the centre and the work that it does. “It’s important to raise awareness because unfortunately, a place like ours is not a popular charity, there aren’t too many people who know a lot about cerebral palsy and what we do here.”

She hopes to encourage people to come to visit the market. There will be a variety of market stalls available however those who wish to participate can still do so. The cost of a stall is R20 and vendors are required to do their own setup. Tickets to the market day will cost R30 for adults and R20 for children under 12. The market will be open from 9am to 5pm.
