Australian father offers R500 000 reward for arrests in son’s murder case

SANDTON – British banker James Starkey was murdered in his Sandton apartment two years ago and no arrests have been made.

A grief-stricken Australian father is offering a R500 000 reward for the arrest of the killers who murdered his son in Sandton nearly two years ago.

According to the Weekend Argus, Ian Starkey is still in the dark about the investigation into his son’s murder and despite evidence popping up, no inroads have been made into the case.

James Starkey, a British banking consultant, had been working in South Africa when he was beaten and strangled to death in his apartment’s living room near Nelson Mandela Square on 8 October.

At the time, CCTV footage showed that two women had accompanied Starkey up to his apartment. The footage also showed one of the suspects wearing Starkey’s clothes. Starkey senior told the Weekend Argus that he hopes the reward, along with the CCTV footage of suspects wearing his son’s clothing, will provide some vital leads.

The footage also showed that the same women had not left the building on the day of Starkey’s death but was seen going to and from the swimming pool. She was also seen leaving with his black suitcase.

To date, Starkey says he hasn’t received any updates about his son’s case and said that for all he knows, the case might be treated as a cold case.
