Notice of road closures around Sandton for Red Boxcart

SANDTON – Several roads in Sandton will be closed from 14 to 17 September due to the Red Bull Boxcart race.

On 16 September, the Red Bull Boxcart Race returns to Sandton and community members are warned of road closures during the event.

From 14 September at 10am the section along Sandton Drive between Alice Lane and Grayston Drive will be completely closed for set-up of the grandstand building.

On the afternoon traffic heading towards William Nicol Drive on Sandton Drive will be diverted by the Metro police.

Motorists are urged to use West and Fifth streets to get back onto Sandton/Grayston Drive towards Fourways.

On 16 September the following roads will be closed from 5am: Fifth Street between Fredman and Grayston drives and on Sandton Drive between Rivonia Road and Grayston Drive.

The roads will only reopen on 17 September at 6am.

Gautrain bus and Uber drop-offs will be at Fredman Drive and Fifth Street, spectators can walk to down Fifth Street and to Sandton Central Park at Grayston Drive and Fifth Street.

Parking will be available at Sandton City for a flat fee of R10 on level 7. Spectators will be able to come out of the Sandton City parking area and walk down Sandton Drive alongside the track.

The programme starts at 09am and ends at 6pm. This is a free event.

The expected number of spectators is 20 000 and they will be allowed to watch on the sidelines along Sandton Drive behind the safety barricades.
