Grayston traffic light problems

SANDTON – Residents have been left frustrated by non-functioning traffic lights at the Grayston Drive and M1 North on/off ramps.

Commuters that use Grayston Drive are often left frustrated with traffic lights that are not functioning at peak times.

The traffic lights that are out on Grayston drive leave commuters in heavy congestion. The Sandton Chronicle previously reported on the faulty traffic lights on William Nicol Drive that left residents frustrated.

The Johannesburg Roads agency provided a report of the traffic signals that were not functioning on Grayston Drive. The dates range from 7 May to 23 July with a total of 11 reported faults on the route. The main culprit being Grayston Drive and the M1 North on/off ramp with six reported outages in July.

A summary of the reported faults:

  • From 7 to 21 May three cases were reported due to no power, installation of cables and construction
  • In June, two cases were reported due to no power and a power failure
  • From 2 to 23 July the six outages were due to no power and technical repairs being implemented on a flashing red light.
