Robbers sentenced to 10 years imprisonment each after ransacking couple’s home

JOBURG – Good detective work sees two criminals sentenced to 10 years imprisonment.

The diligent work by a Johannesburg Central Police Detective has seen two robbers jailed.

Spokesperson for the Johannesburg Central Police, Captain Xoli Mbele has lauded the good work by Sergeant Kenneth Nefuranyele, who was the investigating officer in a house robbery case.

Calvin Lubisi (31) and Casper Dengo (35) were found guilty for house robbery and sentenced to 10 years imprisonment each by the

Johannesburg Magistrates’ Court. The court also declared both criminals unfit to possess a firearm.

Relaying how the crime occurred, Mbele explained that on 3 July 2013, a 25-year-old female was ambushed. The woman was confronted by the two as she parked her vehicle at her home in Johannesburg.

“When she entered her house, she was followed by two males. One of them pushed her onto the floor while pointing a firearm at her. Her husband came to check what was going on and [a firearm was pointed at him],” Mbele said.

He also mentioned that the victims were forced them into one of the rooms and tied up with shoelaces while the criminals ransacked the house.

They took cell phones, laptops, clothes, bedding, wedding rings and a grey Hyundai Accent car. According to Mbele, the vehicle was later recovered at Emndeni in Soweto on the same day.

Lubisi and Dengo also took the victims’ bank cards and made cash withdrawals.

The pair were apprehended 15 days later in Dobsonville. Some of the household goods they had stolen were recovered at the location where they were arrested.

Mbele said the good conviction is the result of a diligent work done by the investigating officer. He said Johannesburg Central Police officers continue to do their best through their investigations to ensure that those who commit acts of crime are put away for a long time.
