Seek clearance from police for workers

SANDTON – The Sandton police have urged residents to seek police clearance for domestic and occasional workers.

Residents in the Sandton policing precinct are urged to seek police clearance for their domestic workers, including gardeners and occasional workers.

The advice, provided by Captain Granville Meyer, spokesperson for the Sandton Police Station noted that this was not a purge of undocumented workers by the police.

“The object is to help residents in crime prevention and it is recommended that all employees be vetted, and a police clearance obtained,” he said.

Meyer added that it was entirely optional for the employers whether to follow this recommendation.

What you will need:

  • A valid ID or passport
  • A fee of R114 (a receipt will be issued by the police)
  • Employee to go to the station to record their fingerprints.

“Results take approximately four to six weeks as it is processed in Pretoria.”
