WATCH: SA Youth Council marches in Sandton to demand jobs for young people from the business community

SANDTON – Protesters are handing over a memorandum.

There are about 100 people from the South African Youth Council marching and singing in Sandton’s CBD this afternoon.

Some are wearing T-shirts that say, ‘Unite! Jobs for youth march’.

Sandton Chronicle‘s journalist, Laura Pisanello, met up with the protesters on the corner of Rivonia and Katherine roads.

One of the protesters explained that they were there to demand jobs for young people from the business community in Sandton. They also want big business to help to develop small to medium businesses (SMEs). They would hand over a memorandum to the CEO of Business Leadership South Africa, he said, and they expected a reply in the next 14 days.

Another protester said, “If they don’t heed our call, we are coming to close this city.”

Some community members reported seeing the protesters on Marie Avenue as well as on Sandton Drive.

Earlier today, the Sandton Chronicle received information of the protest march that was said to be scheduled for between 10am and 1pm, starting and ending at George Lea Park. However, Metro police and the area’s ward councillor said they were not aware of the march.
