Beer company campaign causes stir in Bryanston community

BRYANSTON – The music seems to have been turned off and wrapping up.

There has been some backlash by the community following a campaign by a beer company on the corner of William Nicol Drive and Grosvenor Road, right across from the Bryanston exotic vet.

Complaints have surfaced regarding a beer activation that involved loud music. It was suggested that they had continued for most of the afternoon, 29 March.

Ward 102 councillor David Potter said, “They applied to the City JOC for an activation including noise exemption. We, however, were not informed of the outcome of JOC applications.”

The response included, “We will have a small platform for a DJ playing music from 5pm to 6.30pm only.

Should noise continue past 6.30pm per their notice to my office, the JMPD should be called on 0113755918.”

The application stated:

“Activation of small platform erected inside Bryanston Sports Club against the wall facing Willian Nicol drive. DJ will play music from 5pm to 6.30pm only. No promoters will be in the road and no handouts will take place in the road. All promotions will be at the BP Garage opposite the club. Acoustic consultant appointed to manage the sound. JMPD will be on site at the intersection to control traffic. No alcohol will be on site for sale or to hand out.”

Eyewitnesses suggested that the group had started to pack up.
