Safety tips this long weekend

SANDTON – The Johannesburg Emergency Management Services will be on high alert this coming long weekend.

Johannesburg Emergency Management Services will be on high alert this coming Easter Holiday long weekend and motorists are urged to be safe on the roads.

This according to Robert Mulaudzi, spokesperson for the City of Johannesburg Emergency Management Services said they will be on high alert since there will be an increase in traffic flow leaving and coming into the City of Johannesburg.

“As holidaymakers will be driving to various holiday and religious destinations, during this time we need to pay special attention to the rules of the road to ensure the safety of everybody on the road.”

Mulaudzi said that all 29 fire stations across the City of Johannesburg will be fully operational throughout the holiday period to ensure the safety of all residents.

“Our firefighters and paramedics didn’t take leave to be with their families. They have made this sacrifice to ensure that as an organisation we are ready to render effective professional emergency services to all the residents and visitors to the City at all times.”

Mulaudzi provided some basic safety tips for road users to adhere to:

  • Check your vehicle and make sure that it is roadworthy
  • Get an adequate amount of quality sleep before setting off on your journey
  • Motorists are urged to wear seatbelts at all the times, no matter the distance or speed travelled
  • Don’t drink alcohol and drive
  • Take a break every two hours when driving long distances.
