It’s all systems go for the much-anticipated 5th annual South African Premier Business Award that will take place tonight at the Sandton Convention Centre.

The ceremony, where the winners of the prestigious national awards will be announced, will be hosted by the Department of Trade and Industry (the dti) in partnership with Brand South Africa and Proudly South African.
Thirty finalists from across the country will be competing for the top spots in ten categories including: Investor’s Award, Exporters Award, Manufacturers Award, Enterprise Development Support Award, Black Industrialists Award, SMME Award, Play Your Part Award, Proudly South African Enterprise Award, Women-Owned Business Award and Young Entrepreneur Award.

The theme for the ceremony is ‘Rewarding Business Excellence’ and many high-profile business and government leaders will be in attendance.

Minister of Trade and Industry Rob Davies said, “The awards ceremony is a crucial day in the calendar of our department in numerous ways. It allows us and our partners to take a moment and celebrate the best of what this country’s business has to offer. It provides us with an opportunity to recognise and honour companies that have contributed to taking this country forward by creating employment, increasing exports, investing in various sectors, enhancing industrialisation and transforming our economy.”

Davies said that the ceremony serves as a platform where businesses and government leaders come together to network and reflect on the country’s economic opportunities and challenges and share ideas on areas of collaboration.

He added that the awards have seen the dti working with companies and institutions such as Old Mutual, the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, Tsogo Sun and the Wits Business School. “This demonstrates and confirms the great strides that government and the private sector can make when working together.”

Davies said that a panel of distinguished judges and selfless representatives of both the private and public sector will select the winners.

“The ceremony provides an opportunity for entrepreneurs operating in small and medium enterprises to rub shoulders with prominent and influential business people in big business and multinational space.”

The ceremony will be directed by Power FM’s Andile Khumalo and SABC Morning Live’s Leanne Manas with entertainment by Afri Tenors and saxophonist Ayo.
