Body of a newborn baby recovered in Jukskei River in Marlboro

MARLBORO – The body of a newborn baby boy was found in the Jukskei River in Marlboro on 4 December.

 

ER24 reported that the body of a newborn baby boy was found in the Jukskei River near the Marlboro Gautrain station on 4 December.

ER24 and other emergency services arrived on the scene after they were alerted by the community of the discovery.

Russel Meiring, ER24 spokesperson said, “Upon arrival, paramedics found the body lying in the middle of the river among some refuse. The Saps’ Search and Rescue Unit was called to the scene to recover the body.”

Once the body was recovered, paramedics found that the newborn boy showed no signs of life. “Nothing could be done and he was declared dead.”

Spokesperson for Alexandra Police Station, Captain Allie Kodisang said an inquest docket has been opened at the station.

Police were present on the scene at about 11am. “A baby was retrieved from the river in a state of decomposition. The body was uncovered in a plastic bag and the umbilical cord was still intact,” said Kodisang.

The details surrounding this incident are not yet known but authorities were on the scene for further investigations.
