Earp reflects on successes and issues in his ward throughout the year

BRYANSTON – Ward 103 councillor Vincent Earp discusses the successes and failures of his ward.

Ward 103 councillor Vincent Earp reflected on the successes and problems in his ward over the last year ahead of the festive season.

“I think the greatest success was the eventual renovation of the small Belgrave Bridge over the Braamfontein Spruit, the installation of solar flood lights and the installation of booms to prevent cars entering the bridge when it’s raining,” said Earp.

Some of the unresolved issues he highlighted in Ward 103 include the homeless persons living on the riverbanks, derelict properties in the area, illegal dumping by contractors and taxis who park in slipways, on traffic islands and at traffic lights.

“I would like to see better law enforcement, a crack down on illegal dumpers and an amendment to the fine schedules so that dumpers are heavily fined. I would also like to see the installation of more streetlights in Morningside.”

Earp wished all his residents a wonderful and relaxing festive season. “If travelling, do so safely. If staying in Johannesburg, spend quality time with your family and friends. Share your joy by giving something to those less fortunate.”

He also warned residents to ensure the safety of their property before venturing off on holiday. “Please ensure that if you are going away that your burglar alarm and electric fence are working and that you tell your neighbours you are going away so that they also have eyes and ears on your property.”
