St Stithians Girls’ College is proud to welcome Dr Sally James as the new head of the Sandton-based college.
She has taken over from Ivanka Acquisto, who took up the position of executive head at St Andrew’s School for Girls in Senderwood.James is the third head of the college and has experienced a distinguished career to date, working at three prominent girls’ schools including Diocesan School for Girls in Grahamstown as well as Kingsmead College and St Mary’s School in Johannesburg.
She holds a doctorate in education, with geography as her subject field, and is currently the IEB’s national examiner.
Rector of St Stithians College, Dr Tim Nuttall, said James stood out as the top candidate in a field of excellent applicants from across the country, impressing the two successive short-listing and selection panels.
“Throughout the interview process, James articulated a compelling educational vision and values framework which will provide direction and energy in her leadership of the girls’ college during its next phase,” said Nuttall.
James, who excitedly took up the new position on 1 September said, “The attempt to create a schooling context where girls are free to explore, experiment and investigate speaks to who I am as a South African woman attempting to influence and inspire those around me…
“More than ever we require a society of strong women leaders who will go on to tackle the vast array of challenges and complexities within society at large.”
James believes in the purpose of educating young women to exit into wider society as brave, courageous and passionate leaders who have the correct value system and perspective to make sound and sustainable decisions.
