Bryanston-based organisation Fun-a-Galore gives confidence in the kitchen for little ones

BRYANSTON – Teaching children the basic introduction on how to prepare their own meals.

A Bryanston-based organisation, Fun-a-Galore, with the support of domestic appliance company Míele will host culinary courses to benefit Kids Haven during the Easter holidays.

The aim is to encourage confidence in the kitchen and proper handling of food by teaching schoolchildren basic introductory lessons in cooking and baking. It will assist children to prepare their own meals and develop a greater appreciation and understanding of the importance of nutrition.

The programme is coordinated by the organisation’s Jean Veitch. “I started Fun-a-Galore when I identified a need for teaching children to cook quality food and learn about baking. The programme teaches youngsters to prepare meals using basic ingredients and to cook nutritious meals that are healthy and appetising.”

The holiday programme will also include six children from Kids Haven residential village who have been invited to participate in the classes and can take their prepared meals back to the village.

Kid’s Haven has operated for more than 25 years and has provided shelter and rehabilitation for children. With the help of generous donors, they’ve managed to continue benefiting more than 170 children. Kids Haven believes that every meal counts and fundraising initiatives where the children from Kids Haven village can participate, are well received.

“We believe this will give more privileged children a new perspective and respect for the challenges that some children and their caregivers face on a daily basis. I hope it will encourage children to share with the people around them,” added Veitch.
