An animal will be checked for microchips upon arrival at SPCA and after four days will be available for adoption. York added, “Some days we will have no animals come in and then suddenly it will be 10 in one hour and by law, we can’t turn away any animals, domesticated or not.

York said the association had inspectors who investigated all cases of cruelty. “A court order needs to be issued before the animal can be removed [from the owner] and after that, we have to wait to hear what the court will allow to happen to the animal. It takes time but we are patient as we are more than just a shelter – we are a society for the prevention of animal cruelty.

Lulu Belle underwent an operation on her leg. A donation was made to pay for her entire surgery by a generous person who saw her social media post.

“If you are an animal lover we would love to have you as a volunteer, please do take part in our upcoming events and any donations would help us greatly.”
