Pothole problems cause concern at Norscot Manor

DOUGLASDALE – Residents have been left frustrated with trenches in the roads.

Residents of Norscot Manor and surrounds have been left frustrated with trenches and potholes causing traffic delays.

Although some of the potholes and trenches on Penguin Drive were filled with sand, the recent rains have made the situation worse. Vehicles are forced to drive on the verge, on the opposite side of the road, to avoid potholes which is a danger to other road users.

Coupled with the trench and Metro police directing traffic at working traffic lights, motorists take 30 to 40 minutes to reach the top of Leslie Avenue.

Chris Santana, Ward 106 councillor said, “There were about five trenches dug in the Norscot area in October last year… to lay fibre optic cables. The streets affected were Leslie, Van Riebeeck, Penguin, Westway and Crawford.”

Santana has been reporting the matter to the Johannesburg Roads Agency since November last year, and the only road remaining unrepaired at this point is Penguin Drive.

Bertha Peters-Scheepers, operations manager: marketing and communications for the agency said, “Due to the nature of the complaint, a site inspection will be carried out and feedback will be provided in due course.”
