The National School of the Arts (NSA) held its annual Open Day on 25 and 26 February to allow prospective students and their parents to observe what the school has on offer.
The students performed various dance and theatre shows to illustrate what they learnt during their time at the school.
Students and teachers are busy preparing for the annual Festival of Fame, which takes place from 8 to12 March.
The Open Day showcased a few of the productions including, Dance Spectrum and We Will Rock You.
The cast of We Will Rock you was visited by ‘MiG’ Ayesa, the actor who played the role of Galileo Figaro in London’s West End production of the musical.
Dancers from Dance Spectrum perform a routine they choreographed themselves.
Ayesa joined the NSA cast shortly before they began their dress rehearsals. He offered encouragement and advice and told stories of his own experiences in the play.
The NSA’s performance of We Will Rock You is the first time the rights for the play have been granted outside the UK and America.
Tholwana Mohale, the 17-year-old singer and actress who plays Scaramouche, the main character’s love interest in the musical said, “We’ve been working on this since last September and it’s been really nice because this is the first time I get to act and sing in the same space.”
The Festival of Fame will take place at the NSA and the Joburg Theatre. Tickets are available from Webtickets or the Joburg Theatre.
