Spell-Bound is a new spelling game show where contestants spell words under pressure to win prizes for their school and themselves.

Symanowitz, who is 11 years old, entered the competition online. Out of all the entrants countrywide she was shortlisted as one of eight primary schoolchildren to compete.

There were two primary school episodes on television, each showcasing four school-goers. In Symanowitz’s episode on 11 December, her competitors were aged nine, 10 and 13.

Kayla came first overall and won R10 000 for her school, as well as R10 000 for herself.

The school is very proud of Symanowitz’s achievement.
