Provincial police spokesperson, Lieutenant Kay Makhubela explained that on 10 November, four suspects were arrested at the Core Shopping Centre in Sunninghill. “We recovered a black BMW 3 Series, which we believe to be stolen. We found three R5 assault weapons, one pistol and 100 R5 bullets were obtained,” said Makhubela.
He stressed that the police cannot rule out whether these weapons were used in previous murders and explained that they would be taken for ballistics testing to obtain further information.

The suspects were in possession of various police equipment and an investigation is ongoing to establish how they got their hands on this.

The suspects were found with South African Police Services hand radios, reflector jackets and caps. Makhubela said that an investigation is being conducted to establish how the suspects got their hands on this police equipment.
“The suspects were also found with robbery equipment, such as tape used to keep victims quiet during house robberies,” added Makhubela.
He proudly explained that one of the suspects is allegedly wanted for an array of criminal offences, and the other suspects could also be wanted men. The investigation is ongoing.
Anthony Modena of the Sandton Community Police Forum (CPF) said that this is a big success for the area. “Well done to [all] role players. A sterling example of teamwork. One of the suspects is also most wanted.”
