Miss SA 2017 semifinalists revealed in Sandton

SANDTON – The Maslow Hotel played host to some of South Africa's most beautiful young women... find out who they are and why they were there.

The top 26 semifinalists vying for the title of Miss South Africa 2017 were revealed at the Maslow Hotel in Sandton on 13 October.

The contestants will compete for the prestigious title at the Sun City Superbowl on 25 March next year in an event which will be televised live and simulcast on M-Net and Mzansi Magic.

Six of the country’s nine provinces will be represented at the event with one semifinalist hailing from the Eastern Cape, one from Limpopo and another from Mpumalanga. Three semifinalists call KwaZulu-Natal home, while the Western Cape is home to six other contestants. Gauteng will dominant the event with 14 women hailing from Gauteng.

The semifinalists comprise:

  • Milanie Cilliers – Mokopane, Limpopo
  • Devoney Crossman – Greenstone, Johannesburg, Gauteng
  • Olin-Shae de la Cruz – Claremont, Western Cape
  • Keipeile Dintoe – Saulsville, Pretoria, Gauteng
  • Adè van Heerden – Herold’s Bay, Western Cape
  • Chante Holloway – Atlantis, Western Cape
  • Michelle Kruger – Witbank, Mpumalanga
  • Priyeshka Lutchman – Yellowwood Park, KwaZulu-Natal
  • Boipelo Mabe – Alexandra, Gauteng
  • Kayla Malherbe – Mtunzini, KwaZulu-Natal
  • Nompumelelo Mampholo – Diepkloof, Soweto, Gauteng
  • Iman Mkwanazi – Lenasia, Gauteng
  • Tshegofatso Monggae – Dobsonville, Soweto, Gauteng
  • Ntombikayise Msimango – Springs, Gauteng
  • Shané Naidoo – Benoni, Gauteng
  • Demi-Leigh Nel-Peters – Sedgefield, Western Cape
  • Nicole van Niekerk – Môregloed, Pretoria, Gauteng
  • Shelbe Pretorius – Pinehaven, Krugersdorp, Gauteng
  • Yuta Raubenheimer – Kameeldrift, Pretoria, Gauteng
  • Odirile Sepeng – Mabopane, Pretoria, Gauteng
  • Lou-Marie Taljaard – Bellville, Western Cape
  • Jessica Tovey – Randpark Ridge, Johannesburg, Gauteng
  • Zozibini Tunzi – East London/Tsolo, Eastern Cape
  • Saskia Wagner – Honeydew, Gauteng.

“We have a very talented and diverse top 26 this year, a group of young women who are passionate about competing and who have the intelligence, dedication and attitude to take the crown,” said Claudia Henkel, public relations manager for Sun International, the licence holders of Miss South Africa.

Suzette van der Merwe, executive: commercial communications for the event’s headline sponsor Cell C adds, “The competition attracted high-calibre entrants this year. We believe these young women are passionate about the opportunities associated with wearing the Miss South Africa crown and [will] do their country proud.”

The young woman who is crowned Miss South Africa 2017 will automatically become the spokesperson for the Cell C Take a Girl Child to Work Day initiative.

Ntandoyenkosi Kunene, the current Miss South Africa, will crown her successor at next year’s pageant after competing in the Miss World and Miss Universe pageants.

The winner of Miss South Africa 2017 will receive R1 million from Sun International and Cell C, as well as a bouquet of prizes.
