Belgrave closure sparks opinion

SANDTON – A Riverclub resident believes that Belgrave Bridge should remain closed.

A Riverclub resident, Gil Brothers shares her views on the closure of the Belgrave Bridge in Bryanston and writes:

I am a resident of Riverclub and I’m absolutely delighted at the closure of the Belgrave Road Bridge. Admittedly, it is an inconvenience getting to the store at certain times, but it’s a small price to pay for the return of Riverclub to its residents.

Driving up Grosvenor Avenue, late yesterday afternoon, was a pleasure; it usually takes about 15 to 20 minutes to reach Mount Street. My husband and I regularly walk around before work each day and we are subjected to the ‘rat run’ with people from the far northern suburbs hurtling through our suburb, racing through to Sandton.

Most do not stop at the stop streets either. Cars go past at way above the speed limit – and if you wave them down, you get the good old finger. Riverclub is a lovely, leafy, family suburb, where people walk dogs and nannies wheel prams – motorists from other suburbs must not use it as a short-cut to work.

I quote a Bryanston resident, Garreth Elstron, who complains that Bryanston residents weren’t informed of the closure and the ‘thousands of commuters who use it daily to avoid the choke spots’ are now inconvenienced. Tough luck. Well, Garreth, we as Riverclub residents weren’t informed either.

On behalf of the residents of Riverclub, please keep the bridge closed or remove it completely.
