Sutherland a sand avenue

SANDTON – Sutherland Avenue has been a sand road for more than a month as a result of roadworks.

Sutherland Avenue, which was once used as a back road to avoid William Nicol Drive traffic, has been a sand road for more than a month as a result of roadworks.

In the Sandton Chronicle article, Roadworks cause dusty mess, Week ending 9 September, the issue of the dust created by the sand road was discussed. Excessive amounts of dust fill the air when cars use the road to drive home in peak hour traffic.

In light of this, Johannesburg Roads Agency spokesperson, Bertha Peters-Scheepers provided an update on the roadworks. She explained, “Unfortunately there was a delay in the delivery of storm-water pipes which we anticipate receiving next week, whereafter the road work layers will be reconstructed.

“The contractor has indicated project completion will be before the end of October. We apologise for the resultant delays and inconvenience to residents, however, we look forward to providing a quality road that will benefit the community for years to come.”

Lori Klein, who is a Sandhurst resident and the administrator for her area, commented on the fact that Sutherland Avenue was in desperate need of a makeover. She said, “This road [Sutherland Avenue] was in a terrible condition and needed repairs. The infrastructure of the road was poor.”

Klein urged residents not to use Sutherland Avenue during the repairs. “It is unnecessary to create so much dust by using the road.”
