A little mystery, a little madness and a lot of magic

KYALAMI – From crossbows to axes and jousting knights, the Magical Medieval Fayre entertained all ye visitors.

‘A merry ole time’ was had by all visitors at the Magical Medieval Fayre on 3 September.

For the fifth year in a row, Neigh-Bours brought the magic of medieval times to excited Joburg enthusiasts. This time, the fayre was hosted at the Inanda Country Base. According to Neigh-Bours organiser, Meryl Rosenberg, “We decided to change the venue to offer our guests space that was greatly needed.

Outfits ranged from popes robes, princesses, femme fatale warriors and woodland creatures.

“It’s been amazing here at our new home because Inanda is an equestrian venue which means we [Neigh-Bours] share the same ethos and vision.”

Aside from the stunning water views of the venue, the fayre itself was spectacular in all things medieval and magical. Visitors were able to experience a wide variety of activities from axe throwing, fighting a knight with Medieval Fight Club, to learning how to fire an arrow at the Troll Bow Project Archery and even participating in a pillow fight.

The food and drink were definitely a highlight with home-brewed craft beers, mead and mulled wine. The slow-roasted pulled pork on a bun was top notch when washed down with a tangy craft beer.

Some old favourites drew the crowds like Vegetable Justice which hosted a foul-mouthed joker who spat off insults and was pounded in the face by squishy tomatoes.

As always the Cosplay attracted young and old. Participants outdid themselves this year with outlandishly decorated costumes from tree dwellers to princesses, popes and witches. First place went to couple Claudia Hansen and JP Smit for their homemade antlers and handcrafted armour.
