Sandton Community Police Forum (CPF) chairperson, Anthony Modena, believes that teamwork is of utmost importance in combating crime and it is for this reason that he wanted to share his insight and goals with the Sandton Chronicle.
He passionately explained, “The definition of synergy is, one plus one equals three. What this means is that working together as a community results in more being achieved,” he said.
He added that the CPF was a statutory organisation in terms of the Police Act that focuses on establishing relationships with the police, assisting the police in solving crimes and assisting the police in solving the issues that are causing these crimes.
“People need to join the CPF for the right reasons. The layers in our community that we focus on can be compared to the layers of an onion.
“At the core of the onion is family security and safety. The second layer is the security and safety of our homes and the next layer relates to our neighbours. The fourth layer looks at the streets in which we live and the layer after that is the security within large enclosures. The last layer relates to sectors with organisations that have come together,” he related.
Modena added that the community, including the police, came together to formulate key strategies for their communities. “Most of these strategies deal with socio-economic matters because we need to deal with society,” he said.
He believes that the outcomes of all strategies formulated need to include the moral regeneration of societies and the rebuilding of communities. “We need to have more education available and need to focus on Alexandra [township], job creation and youth leadership,” he said.
One of the pertinent points that Modena discussed involved displaced persons who are the cause of controversy throughout the area. Modena said he was acutely aware of this problem and believed that the businesses who employed many of these displaced persons should provide accommodation for them.
“It is vital that chairpersons of all communities attend these meetings as well as religious groups.It’s quite easy to be a part of the CPF, one just needs to be a part of the sector committee and attend all meetings,” reiterated Modena.
