Pupils encouraged to start small businesses

SANDTON — Step Up 2 a Start Up III encourages pupils to develop small businesses with current environmental and social challenges in mind.

A movie titled Step Up 2 a Start Up III is set to educate and inform secondary school pupils in South Africa about entrepreneurship.

Martin Sweet, managing director of Primestars Marketing, spoke at the media launch held at Golden Reef City about the Step Up 2 a Start Up III movie.

Sweet said, “We need to shift our mindset and that of the youth to entrepreneurship by helping a new generation to broaden their idea of work and think of themselves not just as job-seekers, but as job and wealth creators, equipped with the skills necessary to be enterprising.”

The movie is currently showing at Sandton City and in schools in Sandton, and cinemas nationwide.

The Step Up 2 a Start Up III movie challenges secondary school pupils to seek out opportunities to create small businesses in their communities after school and to develop creative products or services to address needs in their communities.

“Igniting the passion of our youth in entrepreneurship is part of enabling the potential of South Africa’s young talent. Increasingly, our youth have recognised that they not only want jobs, they want to be part of a solution to many of our challenges through entrepreneurship,” said Wrenelle Stander, senior vice president for public affairs and real estate services at Sasol Limited, one of the key sponsors for Step Up 2 a Start Up III.
