Drop off a pair to show you care

JOHANNESBURG - Do you have a pair of shoes, or many pairs, in your closet which are collecting more dust on the top then wear and tear on the bottom? Shoes which are taking up too much space in your closet when they could be filling up someone else’s?

If your answer is yes, then maybe it is time you hung up those shoe laces and gave them away?

There are so many people in Joburg who do not have shoes and who would love to give your shoes a new home. A home where they are cherished and adored – not forgotten and left to smell in a dark closet, all alone.

During the 2015 Spar Women’s Challenge, Caxton staff noticed that many children from disadvantaged schools in Johannesburg took part in the race, barefoot.

This year, Caxton is running a special charity drive for the 2016 Spar Women’s Challenge – to put shoes on feet – so that not only are races run with shoes, but that winter and it’s cold chills are also kept away from feet. We’re looking to keep a few more feet in Joburg warm this winter.

Dejané Poil, head of retail marketing and innovation at Caxton said, “The more shoes we have, the more people we can help – and so we are calling on all Joburg residents to try help us with this drive. Your old shoes, which have long been forgotten, can truly make a difference to someone’s life.”

Those participating in the Spar Women’s Challenge can drop off their old shoes the Caxton Joburg North office on 6, 7, 8 and on race day, 9 October, when they collect their race numbers. While size and style of the shoes does not matter, it is important that the shoes are all in a good condition. For the Joburg residents who do not plan on running in the race, but would like to still partake in the drive, there is also a donation box at the Caxton Joburg North office, situated on 368 Jan Smuts Avenue in Craighall.

Those who donate shoes stand a chance of winning one of five R1 000 Spar vouchers, one of five sets of New Balance running shoes or one of five hair vouchers from Tanaz in Sandton.

The draw and prize winners will be announced the week after the race.
