Imagine.nation brings joy to children once again

SANDTON – The volunteers of imagine.nation, a volunteer association, did something extra special for the children of a creche on Mandela Day. ,

Imagine.nation, a Sandton-based voluntary association, has performed countless acts of charity work throughout the year including a blanket drive and the building of a creche.

The association’s 67 minutes on Mandela Day was dedicated to Boitshepo Creche in Muldersdrift. The association’s Sandton-based members had refurbished the creche earlier in the year.

One of the association’s members, Mandy Benjamin said, “Earlier this year, we had great success in transforming a creche… from a one-room tin shack to a two-classroom prefab model creche with an outdoor play area.

“We decided to celebrate getting this school off the ground in a big way this Mandela Day.”

She explained that the aim of the day was to host a fun day for the children and provide entertainment for the young minds. “We gave each of the children’s families necessity bags to the value of R600 which were filled with groceries, toiletries, a solar light and a set of building blocks for the children.”

Benjamin said she was taken aback by the gratitude with which these parcels were received and said that it makes the work that imagine.nation does more meaningful.

“Not only was the day a great success in terms of the necessity bags, but also in light of the activities done with the children. While fun and entertainment are important, our aim is always to educate. The children started the day by each making a sand art South African flag which is brilliant for both hand-eye coordination as well as colour education,” she said.

The children then did finger painting and ended off with children’s yoga.

“In a matter of four months, thanks to many generous donors, Boitshepo is on its feet and equipped with all the necessary essentials to educate the 30 children at the school.

“We hope that this creche is a beacon of hope in the community of Plot 86 and we trust that it will provide each child with the necessary foundations to start school in the years to come.

“We would like to make special thanks to Pick n Pay Meyerton, Verimark and all the private donors who made this Mandela Day a day to remember. And I am also so grateful to all of the volunteers.”
