4DX cinema to open in Hyde Park

JOBURG – 4DX cinema set to wow movie-goers at Hyde Park Corner.

Movie fanatics will soon be able to experience the latest films in a whole new way.

Nu Metro Cinema has confirmed that Gauteng’s first 4DX cinema will open its doors to the public at the newly-revamped Nu Metro Hyde Park in September.

“It is a specialised, fully immersive cinema format involving all the senses. It is an advanced experience for appropriate films,” explained Walter Gelderblom of W Communications.

You might be wondering what exactly this new kind of cinema is and City Buzz has all the answers.

The new movie viewing experience, called 4DX, uses motion, vibration, water, wind, lightning, scents and more to provide movie-goers with a truly awesome movie experience.

“An extensive upgrade and renovation process is currently underway at our Hyde Park cineplex. This much-anticipated overhaul will bring the cinemas at this prestigious Johannesburg location in line with our top-end premium offering at the acclaimed, upper-class Hyde Park Corner,” said Nitesh Matai, general manager of Nu Metro.

This, however, is not the first cinema to roll out the new 4DX cinema, as this cinema has opened at The Pavilion in Durban and the V&A Waterfront in Cape Town – both of which were met with overwhelming success.

Nu Metro Cinemas signed an agreement with CJ 4DPLEX, creator of 4DX – the world’s first 4D cinema technology – last year for feature films.

This partnership brought 4DX to African cinemas for the first time, and plans have been set in motion for the opening of two more locations as soon as the Hyde Park Corner cinema is complete.

Don’t miss the launch of this one-of-a-kind, multi-dimensional cinema experience in Johannesburg, available in September.
