Resident warns against thieving employees

NORWOOD – A Norwood resident warns others against using untrustworthy placement agencies.

A disappointed Norwood resident writes:

I write this letter as a warning to readers of a woman who was employed by myself as a domestic worker for the past 18 months and was responsible for major theft from my apartment.

She was referred to me by an agency in Parkwood, which apparently did not conduct a reference nor a police clearance check, and stole valuable items which included electronic goods, jewellery, among others, to the value of R250 000.

These items were housed in an electronic safe which was forced from the wall.

I then opened a case with Norwood Police Station and the woman was arrested following this, but was then released. Furthermore, she has fraudulent store accounts and works in a part-time capacity in other areas of Johannesburg.

This theft was a gross violation of property and privacy and I urge fellow homeowners to screen applicants thoroughly before hiring them. I also warn them against using the services of placement agencies which do not conduct any checks, particularly police checks on applicants.
