Water interruption dates to diarise in Sandton and Kyalami

SANDTON and KYALAMI – Residents need to take note of the following water saving tips and water interruption dates from Joburg Water.

Joburg Water spokesperson, Eleanor Mavimbela, said that although water supply across the city is normal, with reservoir levels in a satisfactory position, water interruptions are still planned and residents are urged to diarise these.

There will be no water on 19 July at 266 Bryanston Drive from 9am until 3.30pm. Water will be restored between 3.30pm and 5pm.

Kyalami Estates, Kyalami Park, Barberque Downs, Kyalami Gardens, Willaway and Kyalami AH will have no water on 26 July between 9am and 6pm. Restoration will occur between 6.30pm and 9pm.

The cause of water interruptions in these areas is due to the repair of water services in Kyalami.

Water restrictions will also be implemented in Kyalami Estate, Kyalami Preparatory School, Engen garage at Dytchely Road and the R55.

Residents are reminded that level two water restrictions are still in place and must be adhered to. Due to the colder weather, the stipulated times that residents are not allowed to water and irrigate their gardens has changed from 6am and 6pm to 8am until 4pm every day.

Level two water restrictions, according to Section 44 (3) of the Water Services Bylaw, states that all consumers are forthwith compelled:

  • Not to water and irrigate their gardens from 8am and 4pm every day.
  • Not to fill their swimming pools with municipal water.
  • Not to use hosepipes to wash their cars and paved areas.
  • Not to leave taps dripping and to take shallow baths.
  • Use bathwater or grey water to water the garden.

Mavimbela concluded that Joburg Water is urging consumers to remain active partners in reducing the amount of water used in the City of Johannesburg and to report any form of vandalism and theft of water infrastructure to the entity.
