Sandton Sports Clubs’ potjie fun

SANDTON – The Sandton Sports Club hosts a fun-filled potjie day on 25 June.

The Sandton Sports Club hosted their sixth annual Potjiekos competition on 25 June.

Len Jordaan, the chairperson of the club said, “This year, the new committee running the club used the opportunity to welcome all residents and new members. The event included 24 teams competing for the top prize of R500 and the kudos of being potjie king and queen.”

According to Jordaan, this honour of the best potjie went to Team Oxtail Petals led by Clint Jones.

“With face painters, candy floss, jumping castles and boerie rolls, the event was aimed at the whole family and more than 250 residents came out to enjoy the balmy winter sunshine,” explained Jordaan.

He was exceptionally happy with the turnout and added, “It was great to see so many locals enjoying this annual event [and] well done to all the teams who participated and to those who came along and offered support and sponsorship. We are very excited about the progress we are making at the club working alongside the community associations and the City to clean up George Lea [Park] overall.”

Jordaan explained the aims that the committee has for the future of George Lea Park, in which the club is situated. “We hope to see the start of a six-week project kicking off soon to re-fence the entire area with ClearVu thanks to the generous sponsorship and support of Cochrane Steel,” he said.

“We are also very grateful to the sponsors of the [potjie] event who were Mica Hardware and 24/7 Security.”
