WATCH: Kearney College choir rock the square

SANDTON – The world-renowned Kearsney College choir took Sandton on a musical ride.

While on a tour through Gauteng, the Kearsney College Choir from Durban stopped off at Nelson Mandela Square to give an impromptu performance for workers in Sandton on 22 June.

Kearsney College has become world-renowned for its choir and are the reigning world champions of the World Choir Games.

Head of the school’s music department, Brett Alborough said the choir sang some traditional folk and popular music at the square. “I think bringing their talents to a local crowd is a unique experience compared to doing international tournaments because it’s a proudly South African thing. And I think they realise how important it is to grow the brand in our own country.”

Director of music at the college, Marshell Lombard said, “The performance is just about having fun and performing to a crowd.

“We enjoy singing and we enjoy performing music because it has developed great friendships and connections. And we thought that bringing the choir to Nelson Mandela Square and Johannesburg is important to show people the kind of talent we have.”
