Founders Day festivities at Saints

SANDTON – St Stithians Girls' College celebrated their annual Founders Day on 4 June.

St Stithians Girls’ College hosts Founders Day every year in June.

The purpose of the event, which was held this year on 4 June, is for the school and their community to celebrate the college’s founders, and this particular year was particularly special because this year is the school’s 21st birthday.

Each of the school’s choirs was given an opportunity to perform on Founders Day and the boys’ college marimba band were also invited to show their musical skills.

Many members of staff were filled with pride and nostalgia during the celebrations.

Dr Tim Nuttall, the school’s rector said, “It’s wonderful to see the whole school community gathered in these splendid surroundings. I’m reminded of the beautiful colours of the stained glass windows in our chapel and all the wonderful richness of colour around us as we celebrate our founders and our life together.”

David Wylde, a previous rector of the school said, “The girls’ college and prep are a miracle. On this 21st birthday of the founding of the girls’ college and prep, I ask you to stand and recognise the girls in applause.”

Celeste Gilardi, headmistress of the preparatory school, said Founders Day was a commemoration of the school’s exciting journey.

“We are proud to celebrate 21 years of the schools,” Gilardi said.

“Our schools have come of age, drawing from the rich history of St Stithians College, but retaining our identity as women of the 21st century who go out into the world and make a difference to others.”

Ivanka Acquisto, headmistress of the girls’ college said, “I really believe our girls who leave our beautiful school have well-rounded souls striving to make the world a better place for all.”
