Man in custody for murder

ALEXANDRA – Argument turns fatal.

A 28-year-old Alex man was remanded in custody by the Alexandra Magistrates’ Court for murder.

He apparently handed himself over to the police after the incident which occurred at about 8.15pm on 27 May at a home on 2nd Street, Marlboro. It would appear that the accused, who stayed at the same place, got into a fight with the deceased who was visiting his girlfriend.

The deceased was said to have been listening to music and playing with their child when the power went off. When he went outside to check the cause, his girlfriend heard him arguing with someone. She went out and found her boyfriend fighting with the accused who was hurling bricks at him.

The girlfriend went to seek assistance from her sister’s boyfriend nearby but he wasn’t there. She returned to find another man with the accused at the spot where she had left him and her boyfriend fighting. The two took her and her sister to a nearby spot where the deceased’s body was lying in a pool of blood.

Police and paramedics were called and took the boyfriend by ambulance to the Alex Clinic where he was certified dead. The accused went to the police station to hand himself over.
