A tourism giant takes part in uplifting the girl child

JOBURG – Tourvest Destination Management in Sandton takes part in the Take a Girl Child to Work initiative.

Tourvest Destination Management in Sandton was counted among many companies that took part in the Bring a Girl Child to Work initiative on 26 May.

The integrated tourism group that brings about 100 000 tourists to South Africa annually, hosted pupils of Realogile High School in Alexandra, Northview High School in Balfour Park and Waverley Girls High School.

Pupils had a full programme which included a tour of the building and each girl shadowed a professional for about two hours.

Frank du Plessis, public relations officer of the company, said they took part because their industry was capable of uplifting women. “The girls will be shadowing consultants to see how they put together packages, how they talk to suppliers and contact associates overseas,” said Du Plessis.

He said it was not going to be a limited exposure to tourism but to all the disciplines that were necessary to a tourism company.
