A caring resident

SANDTON – Sandton-based resident, Megan Davies co-ordinated a collection for the SPCA and is passionate about animals and community work.

In the article, Animal hero celebrates 90th, week ending 27 May, the caring heart of an elderly lady was revealed.

A similar kindness and compassion were displayed by Megan Davies who works in Sandton when she organised a collection for the Randburg SPCA.

“I think that helping volunteer organisations is hugely important and there are many people who want to help but either lack the time or aren’t sure of the best way to do it,” said Davies. “As a result of this, I thought that the simplest thing to do would be to organise a collection for the SPCA myself.”

She added that family and friends gave her generous donations for the cause and she was able to go on a big shopping trip to buy items for the SPCA.

Davies explained the motive behind her community collection. “Winter is obviously bitterly cold in Johannesburg, so the focus of the drive was on blankets and towels that could be used to keep animals warm. It also meant that people who weren’t able to give cash donations were still able to contribute by donating old towels or blankets that they had sitting in their cupboards.”

She believes that food donations are of utmost importance for organisations such as the SPCA. “The SPCA have so many animals to look after and so we also collected dog food and cat food. In total, R3 000 in cash was raised which was used to buy blankets, food, treats and other products such as shampoo for the dogs.”

Davies also received 100kg of dry pet food, 50kg of wet food, more than 50 blankets and towels, and more than 100 toys for pets were donated.

“I believe that volunteering of any kind is an amazing way to give back to a community but with my own personal love for animals, I find donations and volunteering that benefits animals are so important because they do not have a voice of their own,” concluded Davies.
