JOBURG – Buccleuch resident and Mrs South Africa second princess Marlene Naiker will be the new Let's Play ambassador.

Following her crowning as second princess at the Mrs South Africa pageant, Buccleuch resident Marlene Naiker has been announced as the new Let’s Play ambassador.

The Let’s Play initiative is a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) programme, developed by Supersport and various corporate partners and individuals, aimed at assisting children in school to become more active and highlight the different problems in South Africa.

Naiker, who is a sports fanatic, said her new partnership as an ambassador for Let’s Play was a natural alignment for her.

She added, “To be honest, I am extremely passionate about sport, and when you’re passionate about something it comes very easy.”

Naiker believes that the addition of physical activities and sport into a young child’s life can give positive influences in their lives with lessons that they will carry into the future.

She will support various activations with the initiative including the Let’s Play Schools Physical Education Challenge. The challenge is a nationwide programme calling on Grade 4 pupils from participating schools to compete in an obstacle course and to see how many pupils in each school can get through the course in 45 minutes.

Naiker said, “Depending on their times, the winning schools can move into a provincial competition, then it will move to a grand finale where the winner will receive a multi-purpose sports court.”

She said she was extremely excited about her heightened involvement in sport, especially on a school level.
