Freedom Day is a public holiday celebrated in South Africa each year on 27 April. It celebrates the freedom that was attained in the country and commemorates the first post-apartheid elections held on 27 April 1994.

This Wednesday is a public holiday, so the weekly Melville Night Market will take place during the day. Back to the City Festival, held annually at Newtown’s Mary Fitzgerald Square, will celebrate its 10-year anniversary on 27 April. Newtown will commemorate Freedom Day with thousands of youth celebrating the holiday through hip-hop music. This year, three surprise international hip-hop acts will grace the stage to create a memorable celebration.

Lusito Land 2016

Lusito Land, Joburg’s hottest family festival is back with some of the finest South African musicians and bands taking to the stage as well as some of the city’s tastiest Portuguese cuisine sizzling on the grills. The festival runs from 22 April to 2 May at Wemmer Pan at Pioneer Park in La Rochelle in the south.
