Majozi’s on fire

JOBURG – Find out about Majozi’s brand new album

Majozi, at the forefront of the indie-folk music scene in South Africa, has officially launched his new album.

The album titled Fire was released on 22 April and while the musician hopes it’ll reach number one on South African music charts, he realises that it could go either way.

“In the beginning you never really know, but in the end, it’s nice to see the rewards of your hard work,” he said.

Having released two singles before the launch of the album, Majozi is excited for people to hear the musical collaboration with his good friend, Tresor.

“Tresor is on the album and it’s weird that that’s a major collabo because we’re friends and I know he’s killing it out there, but he’s so humble and he works hard and hustles, and does all the things that other musicians like myself can learn from,” he said.

The sound on the new album, he explained, was more organic than the previous one, but still quite similar.

With no deadlines for when the album was to be completed, the indie-folk musician was given time to let the music come to him.

“As a musician the writing process never really stops – you just stop recording. So I was able to just kind of write as it came to me.”

What can you expect from the new album?

“I try to be more vulnerable in my writing and express myself a lot more. There are a lot of personal things that have happened in my life that are on the album,” he explained.

“I found that the writing process was very cathartic and I learnt a lot about myself. I want people to know that I’m a normal person, not just a happy clapper.”

With his album now available in stores, he wanted his fans and everyone else to know one last thing.

“If you don’t buy it, I’ll cry,” he joked.
