Suspect arrested for attempted armed robbery

BENMORE – The Sandton police recently arrested a suspect in Benmore Gardens following his attempt to rob a resident. The incident took place last week at around 7.30pm as the complainant was walking along the street.

According to Warrant Officer Moses Maphakela, spokesperson of Sandton police, during this time, two men approached the complainant, trying to rob her.

“The two were allegedly armed with a taser and as she started to scream, they attempted to close her mouth to prevent her from doing this,” Maphakela said.

The complainant then tried to defend herself and, in the process, was punched by one of the suspects.

Maphakela added that as two security guards approached, the suspects ran away, but one suspect was eventually nabbed by the security guards.

“The suspect was then arrested and charged with attempted armed robbery and he has since appeared at the Randburg Magistrates’ Court,” he said. The second suspect is still at large and the case continues.
