AKA bests Zakes, again

SANDTON - The much-anticipated annual celebrity 1Goal4Cancer soccer match was held at Discovery Soccer Park in Sandton, and every celebrity player helped the fight against cancer.

House singer, Zakes Bantwini, kicked off his 1Goal4Cancer campaign after his mother succumbed to the disease in 2007.

The campaign is now a platform that allows people to contribute money towards cancer research, and creating awareness about breast cancer.

Team Zakes and Team AKA battled it out in the blazing sun on the day, and it was nothing less than high energy and full of suspense.

Team Zakes, kitted out in specially designed kit sponsored by Adidas, comprised soccer legend, Doctor Khumalo; footballer, Daine Klate; Good Hope FM’s DJ Lloyd; socialite, Maps Maponyane; TV presenter Gerry Rantseli Elsdon; Donald, one of the founding members of the record-breaking South African hip-hop group Skwatta Kamp; Slikour; actress Pearl Thusi and of course Bantwini himself.

Team AKA sported a specially designed kit sponsored by Nike and his team included Lennox Bacela of Tuks FC; DJs Darren and Ryan known as Twins on Decks; DJ Fanatic and DJ Franky; rappers Kwesta, Kid X, Ma-E; Cashtime Siya; club owner, promoter and director Allesio and finally AKA.

Team AKA was victorious again and took great pleasure in raising the 1Goal4Cance4 floating trophy, which was sponsored by MASCULIN this year.

Regardless of the fact that Bantwini lost the title for the second year in a row, the 11-7 defeat was not in vain as they created quite a stir around the event and raised great awareness throughout the community.

Elizabeth Senger, communications consultant for the match, explained that the rules of the game were tweaked so that any player who committed a foul would be liable to pay a fine in the form of a donation to the campaign.

She added that Bantwini had made a significant donation to the campaign that would definitely bring the numbers up in addition to what had already been donated.
