Varsity College golf day raises funds for library

SANDTON – Varsity College Sandton hosted its annual Charity Golf Day for Tlama Tlama Primary School in Tembisa.

A total of R91 000 was raised towards the school’s mobile library which contains 800 books and DVDs. The college’s Masixhasane Literacy Project provides mobile libraries to underprivileged schools, providing pupils with reading opportunities.

Corporates and individuals participated in the event which was held at the Parkview Golf Club.

“The golf day hosted as part of the Varsity College Sports and Community engagement calendar, was not just a great way to raise funds for a very worthy cause, but it was also a great opportunity for many corporates to network and to build new business relationships,” said Vasanthee Govender, student relations manager at Varsity College Sandton.

First place at the golf day was taken by the father and son team of Dean and Mike Martin. Second place was awarded to Mohammed Akoob and Patrick Sheriff, with Brad Joslin and Jan Snyman in third.

The winner of the longest drive for men went to Mike Ryan and Claudine Prim won the women’s longest drive.
